My Twitter - eCard or App - who knows?

Please download my eCard - it's an AIR application for my Twitter Feed.

After installing it, you may have to quit the application and launch it again before the Twitter Feed will load ;-) after that it will give you the latest update every time you launch it.

If you don't have it also get Adobe Air here: http://get.adobe.com/air/

RIA - Flash, Flex, AIR integration to Drupal through AMFPHP

This was a long hard learning curve.

http://lab.think-a-doo.net/CMS/PENS -- back end
http://lab.think-a-doo.net/RIACatalog/Main.html -- front end

We wrote the whole front-end in pure AS3 and connect to Drupal 6.15 through the new AMFPHP 1.9 server.

Looking at the performance, it was well worth the effort.

Drupal can change everything you see on the screen, the Backgrounds, the Product info and images, the Logo associated with the product. Taxonomy is used to create the category menus too.

The whole site is maintained by Drupal.
The application is designed to run in browser full screen mode.

A presentation of Flash, Flex, AIR integration to Drupal through AMFPHP

If you have ever wondered about Drupal, Flash, AIR and Flex integration, pop along to the Jozi 3 March Drupal Meetup. I am presenting 3 scenarios:

1. Flash content in Drupal
2. Flash content in Drupal with Drupal Services and AMFPHP integration.
3. Flash and Flex front-ends to Drupal with Drupal Services and AMFPHP integration.

@ The Campus (Le Mans Building 57 Sloane Street Bryanston as usual the event will start promptly at 18h30 on Wednesday the 3rd March).

Web Fonts - research by Jan Erasmus

The web has waited long enough. It’s time for professional quality alternatives to the same old fonts. It’s time for Web FontFonts.

Introducing Web FontFonts:

For nearly 15 years, web designers had two frustrating choices when it came to type on the web: use one of the few “web safe” fonts preinstalled on major operating systems, or substitute text with images and Flash/JavaScript® hacks. Not anymore. Recent developments in web standards and font formats make it possible to render HTML text in typefaces other than the same old default fonts. Today, FSI FontShop® International is leading the charge to offer fonts designed specifically for web use. More than 30 of the most successful FontFont families are now available as Web FontFonts®, including FF DIN®, FF Meta®, FF Dax®, and FF Kievit®.

haXe - a Multi-Platform Language with Flash Platform support

haXe (pronounced as hex) is an open source programming language.

While most other languages are bound to their own platform (Java to the JVM, C# to .Net, ActionScript to the Flash Player), haXe is a multiplatform language.

http://haxe.org/doc/targets/flash

You can compile a haXe program to a .swf file. haXe can compile for Flash Players 6 to 10, with either "old" Flash<8 API or newest AS3/Flash9+ API. haXe offers very good performance and language features to develop Flash content.

Danny hits "The Big Time" - AMFPHP 1.9

Danny Kopping teamed up with Ariel Sommeria-Klein to bring AMFPHP to stable and current version 1.9. http://ria-coder.com/blog/amfphp-is-back/

This is a BIG day for Flash and Flex coders alike. Finally we are back on track, with a light weight efficient open-source solution for remoting using the AMF protocol with PHP applications.

I am happy to report it works for Drupal 6.15 and the Drupal AMFPHP 6.x-1.0-beta1 module.

Big Thank you to Danny and Ariel for their efforts!

Judging by the twitter responses #amfphp - this release and their future plans will rock the boat for "bigger" players in the Flash Platform AMF Remoting market. http://twitter.com/#search?q=%23amfphp

It's wonderful to see how unbridled enthusiasm can trump commercial interests.

With AMFPHP 2.0 not far off and AMFPHP Genie in the wings (http://dannykopping.co.za/amfphp-genie/), Danny and Ariel are well placed to offer a better solution than the manufacturers.

All this is very impressive, but what is even better (for me) is that Danny is a think-a-doo member.

Way to go Danny! You are an inspiration to all of us.

AS3 Youtube API

http://code.google.com/apis/youtube/flash_api_reference.html
http://apiblog.youtube.com/2008/10/as3-youtube.html

The AS3 API allows users to control the YouTube video players by loading the player into a Flash application and making calls via ActionScript to the player's public API. Calls can be made to play, pause, seek to a certain time in a video, set the volume, mute the player, and other useful functions. The ActionScript API is automatically activated when the player is loaded into another SWF.

PHP "CMS" listings - Don't be fooled

http://www.bigwebmaster.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Content_Management/

It's interesting how everyone and his dog claims to have built a CMS when most of the scripts are just badly implemented CRUD apps with really awful HTML interfaces.

Small Dynamic Boutiques

I've always worked in the Digital Boutique model.

I recently met a small team who work well together and show real potential. Not only do they understand communication and brand as the core objectives of the outcomes they create, they all seem to really enjoy working together.

That is rare indeed.

In my experience, it is really difficult to set up a group of equally yoked "family" members who do exceptional work together.

I hope you are fortunate enough to have such an experience...

Forrester Research surveyed marketing executives from firms with more than 200 employees across multiple industries to further explore the circumstances behind the move to interactive marketing.

Google Chrome on Mac OS X

The long awaited Google Chrome browser has made it onto OS X in Beta.

My first impressions are:

1. Lightening speed on startup.
2. Loads familiar sites faster than any browser I've used on OS X (8 in all).
3. It's early hours, but seems stable enough...
4. Google Apps loads twice as fast as Safari.
5. Keeps the OS X standard for the menu on top (unlike the PC version).

Verdict - Thank the god's at google!!!
